When a customer purchases a sewing pattern, there are several markings that they expect to be on the pattern. I've compiled this list of possible markings that you might want to include on your digital pattern for sale!
Basic Pattern Information:
- The name of your company
- The name of the pattern
- Copyright symbol with your name and the year
- The name of each pattern piece
- If there are multiple pattern pieces, each one should have a letter or number
- Amount of Seam Allowance
- How many to cut of each piece
- What each piece should be cut out of if necessary
Other Markings:
- Notches- to match up pattern pieces
- Notches to mark the back and front of a garment
- The direction of the stretch for knit fabrics
- The direction of the grain for woven fabrics
- Start and end elastic, or the whole elastic line, if it doesn't make the pattern too busy.
- Cutting lines, especially if the pattern has multiple sizes
- Fold Lines
- Hem Lines- where to fold for hemming
- Gathering Area
- Mark the different sizes, especially on the sides and bottom
- Areas to be left open for turning right side out
Placement:
- Placement of embellishments
- Markings for placement of things such as snaps, hook and loop, etc...
- Placement of lace or ruffles
